Installation & Repair
Soffit, Fascia & Eavestrough
Soffits, fascia and eavestroughs are key components to ensuring proper protection for your home, while extending the life and durability of your roof. They all work together, so if you’re in need of repairs or replacements to one component it’s recommended that you have all three assessed at the same time.
Soffits are the aluminum panels seen on the underside of a roof line, and come in both solid and vented styles. Their function is not just aesthetic – the solid panels provide the seal between the roof line and the home to keep birds and rodents out, and the vented panels allow air to enter the attic space for ventilation.
The term “fascia” is commonly referred to two components – the structural wood boards that support the edge of the roof line and eavestroughs, and the aluminum cladding that covers these boards. Fascia boards are seen on the rakes of a roof line, along with what the eavestroughs are attached to. If there is any damage to the soffits or the eavestroughs, it’s very common for the fascia boards surrounding the damaged area to be affected as well, as this is one of the most vulnerable areas of a home for water penetration to occur. The aluminum cladding that covers the fascia boards can become damaged in high winds, or by animals picking away at the edges. To update the look of your home, it’s also very common to install a new colour of fascia.
Eavestroughs (or gutters) are the drainage system for your home. Their purpose is to capture the water run-off from the roof and guide it away from the home via the downspouts. Most eavestroughs are aluminum and come in 4”, 5” or 6” sizes and are installed via spikes into the facia boards or, more commonly nowadays, via a seamless bracket system.
